Course Curriculum

Teaching a meditation class is more than just taking people through a simple body scan script. Mindfulness classes incorporate inquiry, dharma talks, and informal practices. Learn to structure full classes and workshops and the skills you need to offer complete classes with PYC.

Foundations of Mindfulness & Meditation

Explore the roots of Buddhist meditation traditions and how they’ve evolved into modern mindfulness practices – we’ll explore mindfulness of breath, thoughts, body, and sound.

Ethics, Accessibility & Leadership

Discuss what it means to lead ethically, inclusively, and responsibly honour your students, lineage, and personal integrity.

Overview of the Science

Learn the clinical applications and neuroscience of modern mindfulness and how meditation practices help to heal.

Compassion & Loving-Kindness Practices

Study heart-based practices like Metta and self-compassion, and learn how to weave them into both personal practice and public offerings.

Cultivating Positive States of Mind

Learn practices geared towards cultivating positive states, including forgiveness, happiness and gratitude, and their impact on overall well-being.

Training Dates & Location

This online training is live on Zoom, making it accessible from the comfort of home with the benefits of live interaction and a community of practice. Breaks are given daily to allow for a refresh before each session.

Meet The Facilitators

Susan Hlibchuk

With over 17 years of experience teaching yoga, Susan offers a grounded and integrative approach to meditation. She is certified through the University of Toronto’s Applied Mindfulness program and the two-year Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program (MMTCP). Her teaching blends traditional wisdom, modern science, and lived practice, with a strong foundation in Ayurveda. Susan also leads Ayurveda trainings as well as offering this 50-hour meditation teacher training for those ready to guide with clarity, depth, and presence.

Sarah Sheaves

Sarah has over 12 years of experience teaching yoga and meditation. She is a certified 500-hour teacher through the PYC Academy and has taken numerous other yoga trainings, as well as Breathwork, Pilates, and Thai Yoga Massage. Sarah is certified through University of Toronto’s Mindfulness certification; she has also taken several meditation courses through Shambala. Sarah facilitates PYC’s yin and restorative yoga teacher trainings.

Offline Requirements

Participants are required to maintain a daily meditation practice for the duration of the training. Weekly assignments for practice teaching, and post course work are also required to complete the certification.
